Chargers CB Cromartie may be sent to Detroit

Although it is still a rumor-like message on a reporter’s Twitter page, it just sounds likely that the San Diego Chargers cornerback Antonio Cromartie will soon put on the Detroit Lions jersey.

The Chargers have a lot of tough monetary decisions to make before the 2010 season. Releasing running back LaDainian Tomlinson was just the first step. And it’s already no surprise that the Chargers decided not to offer tender to No. 2 running back Darren Sproles. So it may shock us even less if the Chargers really decide to send Cromartie to Lions for some good draft pick.

Without Cromartie, the Chargers still have Antoine Cason to do the starting job well. Getting rid of all those causing financial concerns, the Chargers will feel better while making their effort to bring back offensive tackle Marcus McNeil, wide receivers Vincent Jackson and Malcom Floyd and outside linebacker Shawne Merriman.

Chargers LB Holt went on IR with shoulder injury

The San Diego Chargers linebacker James Holt will not be available for any of the team’s playoffs games as he has been placed on injured reserve on Tuesday because of a shoulder injury. Former UFL linebacker Dontarrious Thomas takes over the job.

Holt was hurt in Sunday’s regular-season finale against the Washington Redskins and needs to undergo surgery before putting on NFL jersey to play football again. Being used mostly on special teams, Holt finished the season with totally nine tackle in the nine games he played.

As for Thomas, who put on the Minnesota Vikings jersey as the 16th draft pick from the second round draft in 2004, had played in 63 games in five NFL seasons, including 10 starts before he joined the United Football League after the end of 2008 season. As the leading tackler for the California Redwoods of the UFL and being a special teams contributor throughout his career, Thomas is surely the No. 1 choice to replace Holt in special team.

Chargers WR Davis was inactive Sunday with flu

The San Diego Chargers wide receiver Buster Davis (not the linebacker in Chicago Bears jersey) was not in his Chargers jersey on Sunday as the team listed him as inactive due to flu, which also hit several other Chargers.

Along with Davis, four other Chargers were also inactive Sunday, including linebacker Kevin Burnett, safety C.J. Spillman, center Nick Hardwick and guard Tyronne Green. However the Chargers still managed to win the Kansas City Chiefs by 37-7 as they still have big-name running backs LaDainian Tomlinson and Jacob Hester, as well as linebacker Jyles Tucker after the three missed Thursday practice with flu. Cornerback Antonio Cromartie was also in his uniform even after injuring his knee in practice on Thursday.

Their opponent Chiefs also had some players inactive on Sunday: a left ankle injury kept tackle Branden Albert out for his second straight game; receiver Bobby Engram and safety Jarrad Page were also inactive.
