By signing him to a four-year, $1.97 million contract, the Arizona Cardinals added officially the fifth-round draft pick John Skelton to the team’s roster on Wednesday. By signing on the documents, the rookie contract was immediately paid $182,000 as signing bonus. It was absolutely a standard offer for a fifth-round draft pick, and Skelton now has four years to improve his value before asking for a more lucrative contract from the team.
By accepting the terms on the rookie contract, Skelton agreed to receive the standard base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000 and $575,000 as well as a fourth-year escalator clause that can significantly boost the maximum value of the deal. The former Fordham local football star was often seen in a Brett Favre jersey and using his strong arm to throw balls in his backyard when at home. At the height of 6 feet 5 and weighing 243 pounds, Skelton used to make appearance in the East-West Shrine all-star game.
Skelton’s statistics in college football career were 9,923 passing yards, 69 touchdowns and 36 interceptions with a 58.8 completion percentage. In 2009 season only, he passed for 2,708 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with a 64.4 completion percentage. It’s very likely for the rookie to earn a backup role in this upcoming 2010 season.

Cardinals signed draft pick Johnson to three-year deal
The third-round draft pick Rashad Johnson just got a three-year contract from the Arizona Cardinals.
As the 95th selection overall, the 5-foot-11, 203-pound safety from Alabama was a walk-on out of high school and became leader of the powerful Crimson Tide defense. He is expected to fight for the backup role behind Adrian Wilson and Antrel Rolle and for a spot in the Cardinals' "nickel" defense.
The signing announced Thursday leaves only first-round pick running back Beanie Wells and second-round pick linebacker Cody Brown without contract agreements among Cardinal draft picks. They have not commented on any possibility of wearing colts jerseys.
Another news from Arizona said that the Cardinals released wide receiver Shane Morales, who had signed as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Oregon State on April 27 and the team will report for training camp in Flagstaff on July 29.

Dockett will report to Cardinals training camp
Arizona Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett said in a comment that he decided to attend Cardinals training camp and will not allow contract issues to affect his performance this season.
There are still three years remaining on Dockett's current contract, but he is seeking a new deal. For this reason, he did not participate in the team’s voluntary workout this summer.
According to the Cardinals statements, they will consider Dockett's demand only after they solved contract issues of linebacker Karlos Dansby and Boldin.
“From the first day of training camp and on, I will not let my contract issues distract me or my team from reaching our goals,” Dockett wrote on his Twitter page. “I also look forward to playing with my teammates and defending our NFC championship title, and I am looking forward to a great season.”
Dockett said that it was his own idea to post his feelings via Twitter. He also wrote that he believed Cardinals will win the NFC West. He did not yet consider to put on patriots jersey.
