Jaguars do not want to replay last year's holdout

The Jaguars ended their organized team activity sessions Thursday, but the deal with the first-round pick Eugene Monroe has not been done yet. Last year, defensive end Derrick Harvey, selected by the Jaguars with the No. 8 overall pick, held out for 33 days and missed all of training camp. The Jaguars do not want to replay that this year. Monroe and his agent Sonny Shah think so, too.


"We don't want him holding out," said Shah, who is representing a first-round pick for the first time. "We want to get this done."

"I think every situation is different," Monroe said. "I want to be here for camp. I'm going to stay in town and continue to work out and be ready for the season."

The Jaguars will probably offer a deal better than he Harvey contract, and Monroe will compete with veteran Tra Thomas for the starting left tackle spot after being signed.
